The best english language schools in dublin

Recent research by the Irish Government estimates that more than 100,000 international students study English in Ireland each year. Many of these students choose Dublin as their study destination . There are approximately 25 approved English Language schools of varying size in Dublin City, so how do students choose the best english language schools in Dublin from such a wide choice of organisations?

Firstly we believe that you should choose an ACELS approved school. English language schools in Ireland are inspected by ACELS an Irish government organisation (Accreditation and Coordination of English Language Services). ACELS sets out the basic minimum standards for Irish government approval. The inspection process is quite rigorous; ACELS inspectors carry out regular school inspections to check teaching standards and ensure that every approved school meets the minimum standards. There are many English Language Schools in Ireland some are approved some are not.

We recommend that you start your selection process by choosing a school that has achieved the ACELS quality mark, stamp of approval.

It is important to do some investigation work of your own to establish which English language schools are considered to be the best English Language Schools in Dublin.  One way to do this is to look at the social media channels for each of the schools on your list. Check the feedback from past and present students, what are the actual customers saying about the organisation. Does the school make an effort to communicate with its customers and obtain feedback?

Other important points to consider are:

Class Size & Levels: It is best to study in a school with a smaller number of students per class.  Most schools in Ireland offer a class size of 15 students per class, some schools offer smaller group sizes. Smaller class groups allow the teacher to spend more time with each individual student.

It is also very important to ensure that the school is large enough to be able to cater for all English language levels. Smaller schools sometimes have difficulties to provide the classes at all the necessary language levels.  There should be at least 5 class levels at all times (A1 Elementary; A2 Pre-Intermediate; B1 Intermediate; B2 Upper Intermediate; C1 Advanced).  A sufficient number of places at those class levels should be available at all times.

International Mix: How would you feel if you were placed in a class with 95% of the students all coming from one particular country.  You could feel a little isolated and disappointed that the class was not more mixed.

It is therefore very important to establish that the school has an excellent nationality mix. Look at the breakdown of nationalities interacting on the school Facebook Page and the other social media channels. Do you notice any particular emphasis from the the school on marketing to a particular nationality ?

Native English Speaking Teachers:  All teachers should be native English speakers. It is important to learn the language in context with the culture and that can really only be achieved by studying with a native speaker.  Check the school web site for a listing of their teaching staff!
